About Us

The San Angelo Central High School Choirs have a long history of musical excellence. For almost 6 decades, choirs from Central High School have won numerous consecutive Sweepstakes Awards at UIL Concert and Sightreading Contests, as well as several Superior and “Best in Class” awards in choral festivals across the state of Texas. The CHS Choral Department is currently under the leadership of Mr. Landon Gilmore and Mrs. Sunday Vaught, directors, and Mrs. Lani Schmidt, accompanist.

Students involved in choral music at Central High School participate in as many as two of the six choir courses offered. The Bobcat Chorale, Bella Voce Women, Men’s Choir, Concert Ladies Orange, and Concert Ladies Blue are the traditional choral ensembles that are offered for 50 minutes each day. The HarmoniCats is an auditioned show choir that meets after school and presents annual themed shows with singing, dancing, costumes, and comedy.

The San Angelo Central High School Choirs travel annually on performance tours to destinations across the United States. Previous tour locations include Austin, San Antonio, Galveston, Corpus Christi, Dallas/Fort Worth, Houston, New Orleans, Orlando, Branson, Los Angeles, Chicago, and New York. Choirs from Central High School have performed in such notable places as the Corpus Christi Cathedral, the Texas State Capitol in Austin, the Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center in Dallas, the Orchestra Hall at Symphony Center in Chicago, and the Cathedral of Saint John the Divine in New York.
