As before, we are asking that only students enter the church prior to 7:00pm and that they enter only from the northeast glass doors underneath the bell tower (all other entrances will be locked). The doors will open for audience seating after 7:00pm on the southeast corner of the building.

Parent Help

Parents: we need YOUR help! We are asking for at least one parent to sit with each class during the concert and help us monitor behavior. Students will not be on phones or allowed to talk, and will check-out after the concert, but only after everything is clean, put away, and everyone is ready to go home. If you can help us with this, please sign-up here as soon as possible: https://www.charmsoffice.com/charms/volunteerR.asp?s=cenhsc&v=4517364

Parents who signup to help will need to report to Mrs. Cobb (Booster Club President) to check-in and get your volunteer badge. It would be great if you could be there and sign-in by 6:30. This helps us know who is there to help and helps identify you to students and other guests that you are asking for their cooperation in an official capacity.

Military Salute Wrap-up

Thank you so much to everyone involved who helped make the Military Salute so successful. There were numerous parents who helped decorate, bake, supervise, sell tickets, feed kids, etc. We could not have done it without all of the wonderful parent help.

Thank you again to everyone who helped in anyway. It is so appreciated!!!

2018 Military Salute News, Follow-up

The Military Salute is next week! It is going to be GREAT!

A couple of final items/reminders…

  • Show starts at 7:30!

Uniforms/Costumes

Student will be performing in jeans and their choir polos. Out of respect for the church, our audience, and our veterans, please make sure students wear jeans without holes, shreds, etc. I realize these may be trendy, but if we can’t wear classy jeans, we’ll have to bump up to khaki slacks.

Men will need to tuck their shirt in and I strongly encourage the use of a belt. Also, everyone needs to wear closed-toe shoes for this. We will not be sticklers on colors of shoes for this performance unless they are severely distracting.

Parent Help

There is something for everyone to do. This event is a HUGE team effort on the part of the students, parents, and directors. We are still in dire need of parent help, especially student supervision.

PLEASE SIGN-UP NOW! We cannot organize an orderly and efficient event if everyone waits to jump-on at the last minute. We absolutely must have more parents in each class sign-up to supervise students during the concert. As stated before, you will still be able to see your child perform fully, 100%. As a matter of fact, we'll even save the best seats in the house for the people that sign-up to help!

Signing-up will take 30 seconds via this link: https://www.charmsoffice.com/charms/volunteerR.asp?s=cenhsc&v=4517358

Bake Sale

We kindly request donations of baked goods for the bake sale/reception and items for the Wall of Honor. Please bring these items to the church when you drop off your child for the dress rehearsal: cookies, brownies, cakes, pies, etc., all are welcome to be donated for the bake sale/reception.

You will sign-in that you brought something so fundraising credit can be shared with those who participate by bringing something.

Decorations

One of the unique things we do is a “Wall of Honor” where we put up posters, pictures, uniforms, and other assorted memorabilia of relatives who have served in any branch of the armed forces throughout history. It is always neat to see stuff from the Revolutionary War, Civil War, WWI, WW2, Korea, Vietnam, etc. This is something that we ask each and every student and family to help contribute to, if you have a military history in your family.

This year, we plan to decorate the hallway of the reception area where we will gather to enjoy desserts, coffee, and tea after the concert. The space is limited and we want to make sure that we leave a spot for your items.

Please visit the following link to signup for a space: https://goo.gl/forms/dxx8UpVXBplFIUQ62

Please have your student bring their items at their designated call time (above).

FINAL CALL: Submit Names of Deployed Family Members

One of our traditions at this concert is that we honor those family members currently deployed. We read their names aloud and place a yellow flower on the stage in their honor and in the prayer that they come home safely. For us to have enough flowers and a list prepared, we need to collect all names by Wednesday, October 31.

Submit a name here: https://goo.gl/forms/m69z8Oc0ncHwFc7o2

Reminder About Tickets

Students should have received tickets last week. This is a ticketed event. Everyone attending will need a ticket or will be free with military ID. The white tickets are $5 General Admission tickets. The yellow tickets are an invitation to an active duty/reserve/veteran service member to attend for free. The yellow ticket is not valid on its own - it just serves as invitation. For them to gain free admission, we ask that they come in their uniform and/or show their military ID. This is ONLY for people in the services. Family members, young children, etc., will still need to purchase a normal, white ticket.

Money from ticket sales will be due by Tuesday, November 6 (the day after the concert). We need all money and/or unsold tickets returned in the same envelope.

These tickets serve as a way for students to raise money for their trips and future choir expenses. The only way students will receive fundraising credit is by selling tickets in advance. Any tickets sold at the door will go into the general fund.

2018 Military Salute Show News

One of our BIG events and fundraisers is the Annual Military Salute. It's coming up on November 5. If you have not been, you will LOVE this event. It is going to be awesome but we need your help!

Each choir performs patriotic/inspirational musical selections, we feature several talented student soloists and small groups, the combined choirs perform a really cool multimedia presentation with the songs from each branch of the armed forces, and we close with a multimedia presentation of God Bless the U.S.A. Additionally, we have a Wall of Honor, decorated with history-rich remembrances of family members from generations past and present who have served that we enjoy after the concert with complimentary coffee, tea, and desserts. All of this is a big "thank you" to our men and women in the armed forces and teaches our students to respect and appreciate those who serve. It is one of our favorite events each year. The concert will be at 7:30pm at First Presbyterian Church, San Angelo. We expect the concert to run about 70 minutes.

Student Involvement

This is a required/graded event for all students. Since we are charging admission, however, only eligible students may perform. Ineligible students will be notified privately in classes this week. Ineligible students will still need to attend, but they will serve in various supportive capacities (pass out programs, setup, cleanup, etc.).

Students will perform in clean and neat denim jeans with their royal blue choir logo polo shirts. Many students have already received theirs prior to the start of school, but students who have not received theirs will be receiving theirs late next week. We cannot issue those to students who have not paid their one-time $20 polo shirt purchase. Not sure if you've paid that? Please check Charms Office.

As always, we will have dress rehearsals in the church after school for all groups. Please have your child reserve that entire afternoon for this event. They will also be fed before they perform. More detailed rehearsal times will be released very soon.

Parent Help

These event is completely impossible without major parent help. We have several areas needing parent volunteers:

  • Decorations - comes up to the church the day of the event and places decorations in the sanctuary and gym, arranges and oversees the Wall of Honor in the gym.
  • Hospitality - coordinates and oversees the feeding of students prior to the performance, arranges and oversees items donated for bake sale, guest relations during the bake sale/reception.
  • Supervision - we'll need at least one adult in each student holding room. Recommended that you signup for the room that your student's class is in, since you will come with them when it is time to perform. YOU WILL NOT MISS YOUR CHILD'S PERFORMANCES.
  • Tickets - Collects tickets, sells tickets, makes change for guests.
  • Ushers - direct guests toward appropriate entrances prior to audience seating, assist ticket takers with crowd control once seating has begun.

The above list contains specific duties that need you to signup in advance so that we may coordinate with the directors and other parents helping. Please, signup ASAP using this link so we have contact information and can coordinate in an efficient and organized manner: https://www.charmsoffice.com/charms/volunteerR.asp?s=cenhsc&v=4517358

EVERYONE: We kindly request donations of baked goods for the bake sale/reception and items for the Wall of Honor. Please bring these items to the church when you drop off your child for the dress rehearsal. A description of what items are appropriate for the Wall of Honor are later in this message. Cookies, brownies, cakes, pies, etc., all are welcome to be donated for the bake sale/reception. You will sign-in that you brought something so fundraising credit can be shared with those who participate by bringing something.

Tickets

This is a ticketed event. Everyone attending will need a ticket or will be free with military ID. Students who request tickets to check-out and sell are being given those in classes today and tomorrow. The white tickets are $5 General Admission tickets. Another tradition is our Wall of Honor. We decorate a hallway with posters, uniforms, pictures, helmets, and other memorabilia of everyone's family members who are or have served in the military. October Social

On Thursday, October 18, we'll host a social event for the Central Choir students. This will take place in the CHS Choir Hall. Students attending have been asked to sign-up and bring something to share with the other students attending (snacks, drinks, sweets, etc.). The social will start at 4:30 and end by 7:30.

Students are allowed to dress-up in their Halloween costumes. We ask that all costumes be modest and non-offensive. If a director finds a student's costume to violate these expectations, they will be asked to change or leave. The students will play various games and watch the 2006 animated film Monster House (rated PG).

There will be a sign-in and sign-out log of when students arrive and leave (in case any question arises about where a student is/was). Once a student leaves, they will not be able to return.

We think the students will have a great time as they begin to form friends with students in the other classes.
